The Civil Society Network for Good Governance (CSNGG) has described the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles as necessary and timely.
CSNGG also expressed support for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), saying Chelle’s impressive track record earned him the Super Eagles job.
Chelle’s appointment was approved by the NFF Executive Committee on Tuesday, 7th January, 2025.
National president of CSNGG, Adefila Kamal, in a statement noted that the decision reflects a bold and strategic move aimed at repositioning Nigerian football for greater success.
“Nigeria stands at a critical juncture as we prepare for the crucial Matchday 5 and 6 qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With Chelle’s wealth of experience coaching top clubs like GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran, as well as his international credentials, we are confident that he possesses the strategic vision and technical acumen needed to secure Nigeria’s place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals,” Adefila said.
According to the statement, the Super Eagles boast an array of talented players excelling in top leagues across the globe, thanks to the unwavering efforts of the NFF in talent development and player scouting.
These players, combined with Chelle’s leadership, provide Nigeria with a solid foundation to navigate the challenges ahead and achieve the nation’s footballing aspirations.
Adefila, in the statement, observed that the NFF’s dedication to the development of football in Nigeria is often underappreciated. He, however, urged stakeholders in the sports sector and Nigerians to rally behind Chelle and the Super Eagles as they embark on this new chapter.
“We commend the NFF for its continued dedication to the development of Nigerian football. This is often underappreciated despite the tangible progress evident in the global recognition of Nigerian players and the Super Eagles’ competitive profile.
“CSNGG calls on all stakeholders and Nigerians to rally behind Chelle and the Super Eagles as they embark on this new chapter. Together, with unity and support, we believe the Super Eagles will not only qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but also achieve remarkable success on the global stage,” the statement added.
