A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reconciliation committee, Chief Eddy Olafeso, has called for a strategic alliance between the party and opposition figures, including Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Olafeso emphasised the need for the PDP to engage all influential political figures capable of securing votes.
“Not only Peter Obi, every person that is somebody in this country that can actually garner one or two votes must be spoken with,” he stated.
Obi, a former PDP aspirant, left the party before its primary in 2022 to join the Labour Party, where he secured 6,101,533 votes in the presidential election.
He finished third behind APC’s Bola Tinubu, who won with 8,794,726 votes, and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 6,984,520 votes.
Olafeso noted the importance of unity among opposition parties stating that a single political party alone would struggle to defeat the APC in 2027.
“It is not only here that you have alliances; you have people working together to be able to win an election.
“It happened in Ghana not quite a long time ago and that is exactly what we all should do at this moment, no single party can defeat APC alone, don’t let us delude ourselves. We must all come together to fight,” he added.
The PDP chieftain also blamed internal divisions within the party’s leadership for its poor performance in the 2023 elections, stressing that disunity weakened its chances at the polls.
